What’s that Daily Dylan all about?

So, Daily Dylan is me posting some of my favourite Dylan tunes.  I’ll share why I love them, what they mean to me, and maybe, just maybe, someone else will love them, too.

Growing up with Bob Dylan was definitely one of the great things my parents did for me.  Bob is one of those artists you either love or love to hate.  For instance, I never meet anyone who responds to “Do you like Bob Dylan?” with “Meh.”  It just doesn’t happen.  It’s more like, “Oh, man, did you see his show…?” or “G*d, that guy cannot even carry a tune.  How can you love that?!”  The latter response always get my scornful look and then, if I really love the person we just never talk about it again because it mightn’t end well.

He’s not a looker, he has a very particular voice, and he’s not a fluff lyricist.  On that latter bit, I’m admittedly a lyrics snob.  (And because of that, most modern country is off the table for me.  Don’t hate me.  I’ve admitted it openly.)

Back to Bob.  One of the other great things about him is his ability to survive the changing tides of popular music.  I mean, not everyone can become a Victoria’s Secret music man, right?  And what gets me is that he often brings it home by bringing old school style back into the scene.  Here’s an example of some of his efforts from last year:

Also, we’re never going to talk about his dabbling in Born Again Christian-ism.  Not that there’s anything wrong with that.  It’s just that the music was horrible.  Fortunately, he gave that up.  And the music got better.  I don’t care why.  I am just thankful.
